Where does self-esteem come from?

Self-esteem doesn’t come from idealistic abstractions or images; it comes from knowing you’re taking your own next steps to live your best life right now.

Taking steps toward potential means you’re making the best use of your time. No, you’re never perfect—each aspect of potential always has specific hindrances and limitations to grow through; but that means you’re growing as well in the process, developing values in yourself and out somewhere real in the world.

So self-esteem comes now, in the moment (when you know you’re using this moment well).
